The Topeka
section of the AIA is excited to be a part of this national
effort in part by a financial grant from National AIA and by support from
local architects and business leaders. Through it we hope to engage
architects with citizens, local officials, students and business leaders to
provide resources for a better understanding of the built environment as
well as provide for a vehicle for community collaboration.
The focus of the
AIA 150 initiative in Topeka will be
in working with the Riverfront Authority to continue their efforts in master
planning and developing the Kansas Riverfront in Topeka. Recently, the
city of Topeka and Shawnee county have approved measures for a
master plan for the riverfront development. Throughout
the rest of 2007, AIA Topeka will be hosting lectures, design workshops and
community forums to create involvement within the community.
